Despite the rain, Londoners find a way to incorporate color in their every day lives. Whether it's as simple as a red umbrella or as involved as painting the outside of a building, color pops up all around the city as a little reminder that brighter days are coming.

Guess whose hand is not raised? This girllll's. So if yours is.. Well then, get over it. ;)

You're in for a treat today. I'm giving you a first hand look into one of the happiest, most hidden places in London. Ok, maybe it's not hidden per say.. but it's definitely off the beaten path. Let's just say I got lost approximately 6 times trying to get there. 

Every Sunday, Hackney's Columbia Road (located in London's trendy East End) shuts down to automobile traffic and plays host to a number of boisterous vendors selling the most beautiful flowers on Earth. White tents lining both sides of the street house fresh cut stems and potted plants- all waiting patiently for their new owner to come scoop them up and place them in a clear vase or a clay pot. 

I visited the Columbia Road Flower Market twice while I was in London- the first time to buy flowers and the second time to take photos. But I can guarantee you if I ever call London home, you'll know where to find me every Sunday morning. :)

Did I ever share with y'all my final photography project for my class in London? I don't think I did.

I'm quite proud of this project. In essence, it's really the first photography project I have ever completed.  I had an idea. I brainstormed. I researched. I developed the idea. And personally I think the images came out lovely. Although I may be slightly biased...

So what is the idea, you ask?

The idea is this...

Whether it is to show friends back home or to simply remember their travels, travelers take photos in front of tourist sites for a variety of reasons. For many people, having their picture taken in front of a particular landmark is just as important as actually visiting the site, for the picture proves that they were there. The question is always, “Will you take a picture of ME in front of…?”


In the digital age, when a photo can be transported from a cell phone to the World Wide Web in a
matter of seconds, people have never been more concerned with their physical perception. So they pose. They pose in the way they desire to be perceived.

So, how do people want to be perceived?

It's an interesting question that can never be absolutely answered. But it is fun to speculate. It's also fun to observe trends across age, gender, and ethnicity. Some may call that stereotyping, but I disagree. :)

The truth is I have so many photos from my 3 week venture to London and so many thoughts about possible blog posts and am so overwhelmed about posting them... that I have just completely avoided even signing into blogger.

I am back in the States... it definitely feels very bittersweet.
